Checking in…
- At the MIL Championships with my friends Casey and Keoni.
- Tanner after his longboard heat.
It has been a while since I checked so I thought it was time to update on what has been going on. I have been doing some training and of course lots of school. I did get in a Maliko downwinder the other day with my friend Randy, conditions were ok and it was a good workout. There is a big downwind race coming up, the Olu Kai, so I will be trying to get some more downwinders under my belt before that. I also did the Maui Interscholastic Surf Championships last weekend. It was a really fun day with all the Maui high school surf teams competing. My brother Tanner surfed longboard too and even did body board. The body boarders were great to watch doing flips and 360′s. Tanner normally is not too in to competitions but he came out for the team and did it. I got second in longboard and did not advance in short board but it was fun to just get out and do something different for a change. Next year maybe they will have a SUP division! Next month is going to be a busy one. I am headed to Austin Texas to take part in the Texas Paddle Jam. No racing, just there to meet paddlers and give a few tips. I have never been to Austin before so I am looking forward to that, I hear it’s a pretty cool city. Then later on in the month I will be going to Tampa, Florida for the Gulf Coast Championships, an 8 mile flat water race in the Gulf and Intercoastal. That trip is right before finals week at school so I have a feeling I will be hitting the books on the plane! It will be nice to have school finished so I can get on with summer. Aloha, Slater
