Saying goodbye to 2011

It has been so nice being home for a while and just not going anywhere but hard to believe that 2011 is coming to an end.  Another year of travel, adventures, racing and surfing gone by.  There were lots of highlights from the year…the summer road trip with my family, my first trip to Indonesia and Namotu and all the new friends I have met along the way.  I spent a quiet christmas day with my family.  We did the usual christmas breakfast and present opening.  Then the next day was my 17th birthday.  My parents totally surprised me with a beautiful Kai Wa’a outrigger canoe.  Kai Bartlett sure makes a beautiful canoe.  I had no idea, it was the last thing I expected but it was amazing.  I just got into it today for the first time and it is fast and so fun.  I went to Kahului harbour and paddled upwind for a while then headed back and caught a few small waves into the harbour.  Now I can’t wait to get a good downwind run in it.  I am looking forward to 2012, there are already a few awesome trips coming together and some exciting competitions to look forward to. Right now I have to buckle down and get caught up on school, keep up on a bit of training and always remember how lucky I am to be able to do what I do.  I am lucky to have a big support system that starts with my parents, they keep me organized and travel with me when they can.  My sponsors are so important to me and they are all such a fun group of people to work with…Infinity makes me the most amazing boards, Maui Jim has the best sunglasses anywhere, FCS fins help keep me surfing well and paddling straight and fast, Camelbak keeps me hydrated while racing and training, H2O Audio allows me to train with music in any water conditions or on land. On A Mission pads and leashes round out my equipment and High Tech here on Maui is the best surf shop around.  I am thankful for their continued support and encouragement and look forward to a great 2012 with them all.  Thanks Ben (my manager) too for all your help and support.  Happy new year to everyone and let’s make 2012 the best year yet!  Aloha, ST
