Movies, races and airplanes

Winter is over and it’s time to hit the road again.  My race season is underway and with races coming up here in Hawaii, California, Colorado and Illinois, just to name a few, that means some airport time.  It started last weekend with a great trip to California to check in with the Boardwork and Infinity crews, race in the Waterman’s Paddle for Humanity and attend the movie premier of H2Indo.  The Paddle for Humanity is a great event that allows participants to choose from several organizations that they would like to support, a fun day at the beach with some exciting race formats including a bit of an obstacle course to get through on the beach between laps.  It was a challenge for sure.  Thanks to Waterman’s Sunscreen for including me at the meet and greet, I look forward to being part of the team. That night we were off to the movie premier as part of the Newport Film Festival.  H2Indo was the story of our epic two week trip to Indonesia last year to SUP.  The first trip of its kind for SUP and the thing that made it amazing was the crew that went.  Dave Kalama, Jamie Mitchell, Chuck Patterson, Dave Boehne, Connor Baxter, Talia Giangini, me, photographer Jason Kenworthy and a film crew from California headed up by Brent Deal.  The movie turned out great and I hope you all get a chance to check it out sometime.  I feel so lucky to have been a part of it and most of all for getting to spend time with these great people, it was an honor.  The night before we got to see Jamie Mitchell’s movie, Decade of Dominance, the amazing story of his ten world paddleboard championships.  It was truly inspiring and a movie that you should not miss.  Next up is the Quicksilver Challenge at Waikiki Beach, Jamie Mitchell designed a couple of wild races so it should be a blast for the spectators and a major workout for the racers.  Then off to San Diego for the Silver Blade Regatta, an olympic style sprint race event.  My brother graduates from high school shortly after that then we are off to the mainland for much of the summer.  When am I going to find time for school?  Somehow it all works out and I would not change a thing.  I would not be able to do all these amazing adventures if not for my fantastic sponsors, thanks to all for being such a great support…Infinity, Boardworks, Maui Jim, H2O Audio, FCS,  Camelbak and On A Mission.  Aloha, ST
